Biography for Father Peter
Fr Peter Smith has been a priest of the Archdiocese of Sydney, Australia since 1985.
He is the Parish Priest of the inner city parish of St Columbas North Leichhardt. Peter is also the Promoter of Justice and Peace for the Archdiocese and teaches in both the Medical and Philosophy & Ethics faculties of the University of Notre Dame, Sydney.
Additionally, he sits on a number of committees both ecclesiastical and secular including The Australian Catholic Social Justice Council, (a national body of the Episcopal Conference), the Anti-slavery Taskforce, the Board of the Sydney Alliance, (a community organizing body incorporating 47 member groups from across civil society), the Council of Sancta Sophia (a residential College of Sydney University), and the Archdiocesan Properties Committee.
Peter is also the Co-editor in Chief of Solidarity: The Journal of Catholic Social Thought and Secular Ethics, Co-founder and partner of the Refugee Welcome Centre Lilyfield and a Founding member of The Global Catholic Climate Network.
